We need information or help with transition into the adult world.
My son, who has Aspergers, will be 18 in August and everything changes as he becomes a adult in the eyes of those we must deal with on medical, educational, and legal issues and concerns. He has 1 year of High School left. Did you know that "he" has to now "invite" me to his IEP's in school, and that the school is not obligated to notify me of anything that is happening at school?
Besides anticipating and acting on the adjustments that will be needed to deal with these changes, and we are really lost with all of that, we also are running out of time in preparing for things that will be needed to be done for his adjustment into the outside world. Will he work? What can he do? Is there any help anywhere in helping to determine what he might be able to do and how he will get there? He does not drive, he does not want to drive, and I do not believe he should drive. He is not going to be able to fill out an application for employment without a great deal of help from someone as he does not read well and can not spell. He is not going to interview well unless the person conducting the interview understands him.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where we might go for some advice or support?
