Support Groups and Social Groups

All in-person support groups and social groups have been cancelled due to concerns surrounding COVID-19.

Our NEW T(w)een Social Group will be starting this month on Febraury 20. Please see our Calendar of Events for more information or click here to join.

There will be two virtual support group meetings this month on February 10 and February 18. Please click the date you are interested in attending for more information.

There will be a virtual A.W.A.R.E. social group this month on February 17 and an A.W.A.R.E. art class on Febraury 11. Please see our A.W.A.R.E. webpage for more information.

Autism Society - The Heartland offers Support Groups in the following KC areas:

Johnson County Support Group, Overland Park, KS This group is currently virtual! This group is held the 2nd Wednesday of every month from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Autism Society - The Heartland office, KU Edwards Campus, Regnier Hall Rm 270A, 12600 S Quivira Rd, Overland Park, KS. Childcare will NOT be provided at this meeting. Contact Brittany Mitchelson for more information at bmitchelson@bluesprigpediatrics.com.

KCMO Support Group, Kansas City, MO - This group is held the 2nd Friday of every month from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Public Library, Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St. Kansas City, MO 64112. Children are welcome BUT childcare will NOT be provided at this meeting. North Oak Support Group, Online - This group is held the 3rd Thursday of every month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. virtually via Zoom! Childcare is not provided. Contact Bethany Garcia for more information at bgarcia@abskc.com or visit the group Facebook page.

Wyandotte County Support Group, Kansas City, KS - This groups is held the 3rd Thursday of every month from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Kansas City Kansas Early Childhood Center, 1708 N. 55th Street (just south of 55th & Parallel), Kansas City, KS 66102. Childcare is provided. Contact Jonathan Goering for more information at jhgoering@sbcglobal.net. 

*** The North Kansas City Support Group, East Central Kansas Support Group, Eastern Jackson County Support Group, and Sedgwick County Support Group are NO LONGER meeting. Unfortunately, due to the need for a facilitator and/or lack of attendance, we will not be hosting a support group in these areas at this time. If you are interested in becoming a facilitator for any of these locations, please contact Autism Society - The Heartland at 913-706-0042 or info@asaheartland.org.

***Support Group meetings are for parents, caregivers, individuals, and/or family members. These meetings may or may not have a guest speaker. There will be time to network with other attendees. Meetings are a safe environment for individuals to come together and share with others. If you are a Service Provider and would like to present at one of the meetings please contact info@asaheartland.org to get connected with a Support Group leader to arrange a presentation.


A.W.A.R.E.- Adults with Autism Recreational Events - A.W.A.R.E. is a social group for adults with autism (age 18+) who are able to participate in group events with minimal support or supervision. This groups meets for monthly low cost events throughout the metropolitan Kansas City area. Attendees should expect to provide their own transportation to events. Autism Society - The Heartland is currently looking for additional facilitators of the A.W.A.R.E. social group to help plan, manage, and attend the monthly events. If you are interested in volunteering to help lead this group, please email ashofficeasst@gmail.com. 


T(w)een Game Night- This a social group for tweens and teens with autism, ages 11-16, who are able to participate in game nights with some supervision. Please check our Calendar of Events or our Events page more information on the location and topic each month.


Saturday Seminar Workshops- Many of our ASH members and families cannot attend our week-night support groups, so we have added Saturday Seminars to focus on specific topics in a workshop format. These are free events for members as part of our membership benefits. Our Saturday Seminars will be held the 2nd Saturday of each month.
